Okay...don't shoot me, but I am not a Potter fan..and I need new books to read! I read the Konrath books you recommended, and I loved them..but I am waiting for the last two to come out in paperback before I buy them. I have read and highly recommend the Janet Evanovich series...One for the Money, Two for the Dough, and so on...there are 13 of them...very funny and VERY quick reads. With the exception of Potter, any other recommendations?

Anonymous,
Konrath's "Rusty Nail" is now available in paperback. It's even better than the first two. Marcus Sakey's "The Blade Itself" and Sean Chercover's "Big City, Bad Blood" are great thrillers, although they're still just in hardcover. If you're looking for paperbacks, Christopher Moore's "Lamb" is one the best books I've ever read. Micahel Chabon's "The Amazing Adventures of Kavelier and Clay", J.R. Moehringer's "The Tender Bar", and I just discovered Lawrence Block's "Hit Man", "Hit List", and "Hit Parade". A great series featuring a hitman who almost seems to be dealing with a midlife crisis. All of these are great, quick reads.
Head to your local Waldenbooks or Borders and check out the "Staff Picks sections. These can be great places to get new ideas. Good luck!

I have finished two of the Konrath books: Rusty Nail and Bloody Mary. Our local library doesn't carry Whisky Sour - I need to see about getting that one from another location.

I just finished reading the prequel to The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons. I loved it, and in my opinion it's better than DVC. You know it must be good when not only have I gotten the General to read it, but he stayed up until 3 am reading it last weekend.

I've also started reading some James Patterson. This is by far the most I've read in a long time: six books and counting since mid-June, and I'm loving it!

I have read several this summer that have been very good (although not thrillers like Konrath)
Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See
The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls

Mrs-I can't believe I forgot about Patterson. Start with "Along Came a Spider" for the Alex Cross series, and "1st to Die" for the Women's Murder Club.
Jen-Right on about "Water for Elephants". Looking forward to "Glass Castle"
