Ahhh... I love this time of year. Pre-season football, grilling out, ice-cold Leinie's, the sound of Jen sobbing into her pillow as she counts down the final days of her summer break. Okay, that last one isn't actually a good thing, but it is something that happens around here every August. So, in an effort to take advantage of one of the last free days we'll share as a family, Peanut, Jen, and I headed to Chicago's Brookfield Zoo.
Seeing as how Peanut has just about out-grown her stroller, we decided to rent a wagon.
At first, I think she was a little skeptical about riding in the wagon, but then she realized, "Wait, mom or dad is going to pull me, and I can kick back and drink my water just like when I'm in my stroller?" The wagon then became an acceptable form of transportation while at the zoo.
We were pretty lucky in that a lot of the animals were fairly active today. Often times, when you go to the zoo, the animals are hiding out to stay cool. It seems like you see more empty enclosures than anything. But, as I said, we had a good day.
We capped the day with a spin on the giant carousel...
and a nap.

You say "we" capped the afternoon with a spin and a nap....I believe only 1 of the 3 of us had a nap. And boy did she nap hard. I love that she woke up from her nap worried about where her polar bear wax statue was. :)
How fun! I love the picture of Peanut in the kangaroo pouch and the one of her napping. It looks like she had a rough day of being pulled in the wagon! It's tough being a kid, isn't it?
Jen, I'm totally crying into my pillow too. Boo hoo, sob, sniffle. Please don't make me go!
You poor kids. You have to go back to school while this old man just lofs around all day. I wish I was working.

Looks like it was a blast!! The cousins sure do miss that big zoo! Maybe next summer!
