Like father like daughter; without all the swearing
It's taken three years, but the Swanny clan has managed to make a trip to the local cineplex for some quality movie viewership.
Peanut has recently taken a liking to the 1954 Dr. Seuss classic, "Horton Hears a Who". I brought the book home from work a week ago and it's become a regular read at nap and bedtime.
At first Peanut wasn't a fan because she felt that the kangaroos, monkeys, and the eagle were mean to Horton. (I have to agree with her here. Readers of the book will agree that these animals are essentially a group of homocidal maniacs who will stop at nothing to bring about the slaughter of hundreds of harmless Whos.)
But, (spoiler alert) when Horton and the Whos are able to convince everyone that the Whos do exist, the other animals come around and treat Horton with a bit of dignity and respect. Here is when Peanut starts diggin' the story again.
She's been enjoying the book so much that we decided to take her to the movie. We didn't know if she'd enjoy Horton on the big screen but she did her old man proud. Shoving popcorn in her mouth by the handful makes Peanut look even more like me than the poor kid already does. She kept her eyes glued to the screen and got super-excited when thing were going Horton's way. I think we may have a future movie junkie on our hands.
If she memorizes random lines from her favorite flicks, she'll be able to drive her mom nuts like I do.
I couldn't be prouder.

I loved how she was spitting at the Kangaroo when she was first being mean to Horton...after a correction that we don't spit, she turned to me with nothing but honesty and said, "but I don't like her." It was a fun time!!
Sounds like fun! She'll be talking about that for a long time, I bet.
I was thinking about doing the same with Shortcake. Glad to hear the outing went well!
